Apprenticeships and New roles:
Work in this space is never dull and routine! This month I’m really proud of the network of colleagues we have who so often say yes to rather odd requests. This time, it’s thanks to Liz Leggott from the Primary Care Workforce and Training Hub who has agreed to offer room space for the UK contestant for the WorldSkills International Competition to practice with her trainers in advance of the finals in Lyon in September. Who is in Squad UK (worldskillsuk.org). Our finalist, Edie, is a former Sheffield College student, now studying mental health nursing in Manchester. Thanks to Liz she can practice her scenarios in her hometown!
Jen Richmond from Southwest Yorkshire Partnership represented our NHS and local authority employers in London to recommence a Level 2 Business Administration Apprenticeship trailblazer group. This work has been led by the national team at NHSE, in conjunction with some large private and public sector employers, and we have now been given approval to move forward. This development has been long awaited and we are delighted to support.
Finally, I’d like to say thank you to our Apprenticeship Group Chair, Suzanne Gillott who has stepped down prior to retirement, and thanks to Amanda Lee-Kearsley from Sheffield Teaching who will be taking up this role from June.
South Yorkshire Careers (NHS Health and Care):
Recent recruitment event held with Sheffield College and social care employers to support learners into work which was successful- 20 learners attended, with 8 being offered roles, another 8 progressing to 2nd interview stage and 3 being offered apprenticeships.
SYREC Website is being revamped and has now entered the build phase with the relaunch of the website planned for August.
We have evaluated the information session to care experienced young people in Rotherham and are presenting at a youth hub in Sheffield later in the autumn. The team are involved in planning recruitment events for social care staff and the World of Work event showcasing NHS job opportunities in Sheffield.
We are developing links with key stakeholders in supported internships and T Level student industry placement conversations are continuing.
Upskilling / Workforce development:
The ICB has been part of a series of Education “Big Conversation” workshops hosted by Kings Fund bringing together NHS providers to identify key opportunities for collaboration. These sessions have provided an engagement mechanism to allow organisations to agree priority workstreams for the coming months. Priority areas are:
- Health Inequalities
 - Children’s Services
 - Clinical Skills (Focus on Non-Med Prescribing)
 - Leadership Development

Workstreams are being taken forward across all four areas.
We await confirmation of CPD funding which will also inform areas for collaboration based on organisation plans.
