Bassetlaw is part of the South Yorkshire health and care footprint, despite geographically being part of Nottinghamshire as its northernmost town.

  • Area: 637.8 km²
  • The borough is largely rural, with two towns - Worksop and Retford.

The purpose of the Bassetlaw Integrated Care Partnership is to deliver improvement in experiences, health and wellbeing for Bassetlaw citizens, through simpler, integrated, responsive and well understood services which ensure people get the right support at the right time. This will support local people to stay well in their own homes and communities so everyone can be better in Bassetlaw. A Closer Look

New Initiatives:

  • Working Win - a new inclusive employment initiative being trialled to support people back into employment who might otherwise, have not had appropriate access or opportunity to join.
  • Get Out, Get Active - helping local residents manage their physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Local Childhood Obesity Commission (LCOC) - with higher rates than the national average for childhood obesity, a call to action launched in early 2020 is helping to identify the cause through the help of the public. This public engagement work feeds directly into the Bassetlaw Place Plan. Through the new LCOC and a new ‘Integrated Wellbeing Service’, the Commission will look into the reasons behind obesity by exploring factors such as parenting, schools, access to physical activity and individual motivation.

System Plans and Developments:

  • People with a high risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, dementia and mental health are being supported with physical activity.
  • Help for local people to stop smoking and manage their weight in the most at need communities.
  • A rapid response service providing two hour urgent community response.
     

Residents report being in:

  • 42.8% very good health and 34.7 % good health
  • 15.8% fair health
  • 5.2% bad health and 1.5% very bad health
