Hyperlocal event was a success with approximately 152 people attending the Salvation Army and 26 new referrals were signed up for UKSPF and the salvation army identified 16 people for training, lots of networking occurred on the day.
In May the Doncaster Strategic Workforce Group started a conversation about how as partners we can commit to being Anti-racist organisations. This discussion will continue in July with a focus on developing and commissioning anti-racism training, sharing learning on effective staff networks, storytelling examples and where to use them, and contribution to and signing of the Doncaster anti-racism charter.
Work this quarter has focussed around establishing the DWP Health and Care partnership employability officer role in Doncaster and linking them with partners to explore opportunities to work together. The purpose of this role is to support widening access into health and care roles. We are currently working with the Facilities team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals to see how a Sector Based Work Academy might support job seekers into employment.
The monthly Doncaster Recruitment and Employability meeting that started in January is continuing to build its membership with 32 representatives from partner organisations sharing opportunities and knowledge to promote and support employment in health and social care. Benefits of this network have included an increased understanding of what partners offer and myth busting. There is a willingness to work together to find solutions with a greater appreciation of each other. Organisations that were in competition with each other are working together outside the meeting, and although the meeting focuses on H&C, the connections made have resulted in organisations working together to support people with finding jobs in other sectors – all good for our wider Doncaster community.
The Recruitment and Employability Group which has been set up is now working very effectively. We have around 35 – 40 members that attend the meeting. Partners across place regularly attend the monthly meetings and we now have representation from all employers in the partnership network including Rotherham Hospital, RDASH, RMBC (Social Care), VAR (Voluntary Action Rotherham) and the Primary Care Network.
Social Care Development Michael is now connected in with the key strategic leaders across RMBC who deliver social care. Moving forward, partners will be looking at what key pieces of work need progressing to support the workforce. We delivered Social Care Recruitment Event in June which was successful. We interviewed 31 candidates for roles in social care. We used the bespoke recruitment model to match candidates directly into vacancies removing the barriers to employment in the process. This is part of the widening participation strategy to recruit candidates from all parts of society.
Secondary Care The work with TRFT and RDASH is well underway. We are now working in partnership with the HCSW lead at TRFT to help fill vacancies. Candidates identified by partners are now guaranteed interviews under the widening participation agenda. We will be looking to roll out this model to other departments at the Trust. We are running a volunteering event for RDASH in conjunction with VAR and other partners at place. This will aim to help recruit volunteers and recruit for any vacant positions at the trust.
Primary Care Michael has now connected in with the PCN managers in Rotherham that are linked in with GP practices. We will be working with them moving forward to see how we can support their recruitment programme. We are running a workshop for GP practice managers relating to ACP recruitment, as this is an area where practices are struggling to recruit in Rotherham. The workshop will be run by Sarah Fisher SY ICB Lead for ACP’s.
