SY Workforce Hub Quarterly Highlights Report (April - June 24)
People Experience
On 1st April, the Mental Health hub was funded again for the next 12 months open to all staff across all sectors. During April and May over 682 of our workforce across all sectors used this service. The top three presenting issues were stress, anxiety and depression/low mood. Also, on 1st April, the 24/7 menopause support line was launched linked to the mental health hub. During April and May, 29 staff contacted this line for support and review of medications (9 were supported through EAP support).
As a follow on from supporting the heads of chaplaincies across all seven Trusts as well as the managers of all hospices within South Yorkshire. STH launched a video that the ICB People experience team was able to fund to promote the role of Chaplaincies within South Yorkshire and the support they offer to staff and patients. This was part of the work we supported to bring all heads of chaplaincies together across the ICS LINK
In April, 582 attendees logged into the MSK webinars as part of World Admin Day. Feedback such as ‘All sessions were relatively short making it easier to attend. Exercises can be fitted into daily routine/activities’ and ‘Melt away stress was very useful. Some really good tips for easing stress and headaches’. 57 attendees completed an evaluation survey stating that they found the sessions useful and would recommend to others.
In May, Caroline Smith, Project manager for health and wellbeing joined the team to support wellbeing for the ICB and ICS. Caroline has linked with all H&WB leads and arranged drop-in sessions at the four place bases of the ICB to commence in July.
During this period, the team were able to continue raising awareness of menopause. Over 350 menopause champions and advocates have now been trained. The main focus has been to train more from VCSE and primary care organisations. In May, we launched the People Partnership groups and three other panel groups as part of the H&WB strategy 3-year roadmap. We have representatives from all sectors on the panel groups.
In June, as part of Men’s Health week, we launched and delivered the first Suicide prevention first aid programme with over 15 staff from NHS trusts attending. There was an overall score of 4.8/5 of how the course was rated. Comments from delegates included ‘Create the right environment to openly discuss a very sensitive subject’, ‘Delivered the course respectfully and allowed time to discuss each point. Made sure we understood. Allowed everyone time and encouraged everyone to partake’. In total there are 80 spaces available across 5 courses. The Men’s health website was promoted LINK
In June, the team launched our H&WB and EDI platform of activities to 5,500 colleagues across the system and received some great feedback.
In June, The People Experience team came second runners up Highly commended for ‘Best Healthcare and Wellbeing Benefits – large employer’ award. Brigitte Kaviani was awarded ‘Best Employee Benefits Professional of the Year’.
In June, as part of our wellbeing, EDI and retention programme aimed at our internationals and refugees we delivered a wellbeing pastoral support event for 20 refugee nurses registered with ReSTORE


At the start of the year, South Yorkshire had the amazing opportunity to continue with the People Promise Exemplar (PPE) programme with a second cohort of three new PPE Sites Barnsley NHS FT, Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS FT and Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS FT. The Retention lead was asked to provide System support to the 4 PPE Mangers with West Yorkshire, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Airedale NHS FT, Leeds Teaching Hospital and the Leeds and York partnership NHS FT. This second Cohort was launched at an event in York bringing together all the PPE managers to ensure they receive the best start to the programme by sharing experiences of PPE mangers from the first Cohort and sharing good practice and Resources available to them.


We have supported developing a recruitment and retention video at Sheffield Teaching Hospital FT through promoting the essential work that administrative staff do behind the scenes. Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging:
In June, Loma Jones, Senior Project manager for Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and belonging joined the team to support EDI for the ICB and ICS. All NHS organisations within SY have committed to the North-West BAME assembly Anti Racist framework. SY ICS Senior EDI leadership meetings are on-going and the SY ICS EDI network established a structured programme.
In June, Azimah Faiz, Senior Project manager for Talent management joined the team. Azimah’s role is to Identify key priorities and objectives and she has started connecting with key stakeholders and talent leads.
