Apprenticeships
There are many apprenticeships available in Pharmacy. These are often funded, even in the parts of our industry where you might think they aren’t!
Large employers can use their apprenticeship levy to fund the training costs of apprenticeships. Interested staff can approach their Apprenticeship Lead who works in the Learning and Development Team as well as their line manager for more information.
Small, non-levy paying employers can apply for levy transfer from a large employer in South Yorkshire using the form linked here. This covers the whole of the training fees, but not any salary contribution.

More Information
Bradford College, BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Services and Therapeutics Course:
- I have enjoyed the knowledge and skills I have gained, not just through the course material but through the webinars. Also, I have enjoyed watching my writing skills develop. This course has led me to progress in my current role and allowed me to take on more responsibilities, such as: have my own hypertension clinics as well as being able to complete small medication reviews (for example, PPI reviews and allergy reviews). If you are looking at helping patients through gaining a better understanding about health conditions and treatment's, this is the course for you - Amie Bridges, Lead Clinical Pharmacy Technician at Upton Surgery, describing her experience of the BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Services and Therapeutics Course.
Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeships
- I have just completed my 2-year Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship, where I worked cross sector with Doncaster ICB, Sheffield ICB and Doncaster Royal Infirmary. I would highly recommend the course as it has given me greater in-depth skills and knowledge and has allowed me to develop my career as a pharmacy technician for the medicines optimisation team.
- The course was with Bradford College, and I particularly enjoyed the online college lessons and found the learning to be very informative, and well presented, in ways of slides and videos. The tutors delivered the lessons in a clear and interactive manner, which suited my learning style, and they were always there to provide support and guidance. Working across different sectors give me an insight to just how many avenues there are to work as pharmacy technician, and it portrayed just how valued we are in the pharmacy sector.
- All of the staff who have been with me throughout this 2-year journey have been friendly, welcoming and very supportive and I feel a learning environment were always promoted.
- I would highly recommend this course, much so my teenage daughter has recently enrolled!
- I am extremely grateful to of had the opportunity to undertake the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship with the ICB. Over the past 2 years not only have I gained the knowledge and experience to become a Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician, I also worked with our partners DBTH where I learnt about the world of hospital pharmacy. As well as this, I had an insight into prison Pharmacy Technicians and Active Recovery Pharmacy Technicians. Because I have been so lucky to learn about all these different career paths, it helped me decide which route I wanted to go down once I qualified. Although I found the other areas of pharmacy very interesting, I was fortunate enough to secure a permanent position in the Medicines Optimisation Team at the ICB where I hope to progress in my career. I would encourage anyone who is interested in a career in pharmacy to apply for a post like mine, as I really have had the best 2 years learning, growing and meeting loads of new people along the way!
