A GP from Doncaster who believes getting back to work is an important step in rehabilitating recovering patients, has been talking about why she is referring her patients to the Working Win Health- Led Employment Trial.
Working Win is an experimental randomised control trial testing a new employment support service for people who are living with physical or mental ill health. People who take part will be randomly placed into one of two research groups. One group will receive the new service and the other group will be provided with information about existing services in their area. The trial aims to find out how good this new service is at helping people to find and stay in work. South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw is one of only two places in the UK trialling the approach.
Dr Niki Seddon is a GP from the Great North Medical Group in Doncaster who has been referring patients to the trial, she says:
“Patients come to see me to tell me about their problems and often they are on the mend, they are rehabilitating and I think the biggest bit of rehab is getting back to work. They might tell me that their job isn’t suitable or they don’t have a job and they are not sure how to find one. it’s perfect in that instance to refer to Working Win - who basically do all that for you. If the patient is already in employment they’ll get in touch with their employer and make sure everything is in the right place for them to be able to work, and if they don’t have a job they’ll help them find something appropriate.”
