Since the first wave of the coronavirus (Covid-19) thousands of patients have been treated and cared for by GP practices, pharmacies, community services and hospitals across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB).

All parts of the NHS transformed their services to enable continued care for people and the shared learning from the first wave has put all local health organisations in a strong position to manage a further wave.

As numbers of cases continue to rise, staff across all NHS services are once again providing support, care and treatment. As was the case during the first wave, Covid-19 patients who need hospital care in our region will be treated at their local or a neighbouring hospital.  If the SYB system capacity is exceeded, patients who are clinically appropriate would be transferred to the NHS Nightingale Hospital Yorkshire and the Humber.

The NHS Nightingale Hospital based at the Harrogate Convention Centre is for the whole of Yorkshire and the Humber. The location was chosen because the facility could quickly be adapted and it is central to the whole region. Patient transfers to the facility will be done following strict clinical guidance.

Wherever possible, partners will also continue to provide as much emergency and routine care as possible. Please continue to attend for appointments or operations as planned unless you are informed otherwise. If you need urgent or emergency care please call 111 who will be able to advise you.
