Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) are offering two complimentary therapy sessions to all of their staff members as a way of saying ‘thank you’ as well as to ensure colleagues are taking time to relax and recharge.
Staff members at DBTH have had to deal with periods of stress throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, experiencing long hours and never before seen challenges. The Trust hopes that these sessions will have a positive impact on the wellbeing of all their colleagues, allowing them to take some much-needed time for themselves.
Aurora Wellbeing, who have been in business for many years and have offices in Worksop, at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, and at Montagu Hospital, are undertaking the sessions across all three sites.
Debra Fores, General Manager at Aurora Wellbeing, said: “Aurora Wellbeing is delighted to support the Wellbeing of NHS staff. We have established therapy services we offer across Bassetlaw, Doncaster and Mexborough and our therapists look forward to welcoming NHS staff”.
The staff themselves have a variety of different treatment options. These are:
- Massage
- Indian head massage
- Reflexology
- Reiki
- Relaxation massage
- Warm wax hand massage
- Foot massage
- Relaxation facial to include therapeutic de-stress facial massage, back, neck and shoulder massage.
Karen Barnard, Director of People and Organisational Development at the Trust, said: “The health and wellbeing of our employees here at the Trust is of the upmost importance to us. I sincerely hope that staff take this opportunity to alleviate some of the stress and worry that has built up, particularly throughout the past 20 or so months.”
This scheme follows on from the incredibly popular free Reiki and Seichem health sessions that were offered to staff earlier this year. Colleagues are able to have a one-to-one session with licensed Master Reiki and Seichem Practitioner, Darren Fox, where they are able to relax, meditate and take part in ‘holistic healing’.
Rebecca Rider, Paediatric Nurse in the Emergency Department, took part in a Reiki session with Darren. Speaking of her experience, she said: “My role can be very stressful and quite emotional at times. After a period in which I dealt with several challenging situations within the Emergency Department, I felt as though I needed further support. I booked in with Darren and after just one session of Reiki I came out of the room feeling like a totally new person!”
