Kind-hearted golfers have raised £2566.65 for St John’s Hospice in Balby to benefit local people and their families who use its services.

The funds were raised by Doncaster Golf Club as one of its charities for 2019. Lady Captain Carole D O’Neill chose St John’s Hospice as her charity of the year in memory of a member of her family who had used its services.

Carole said: “I wanted to support a local charity and chose the hospice in memory of my husband Patrick. He was keen golfer and member of the club and used the care of the hospice. It is only at times of need that you realise just how important the hospice is and it’s a mark of appreciation for the care that they provided.”

The Balby-based hospice provides a comforting environment for people with life limiting illnesses and their families. It includes a day hospice where people can come and take part in therapeutic activities to improve their wellbeing. The staff support patients and families to live with their illness.

St John’s Hospice Fundraiser Lindsey Richards, said: “It’s fantastic that Doncaster Golf Club, their family and friends have supported us over the last year. Every penny raised will go towards making our patients and their carers lives more comfortable.”
