Millennium Gallery is Sheffield’s premier destination for art, craft and design. Here you can see some of Sheffield’s unique heritage, including the metalwork which made the city world famous, alongside contemporary art and design exhibitions. Opened in 2001 and featuring over 1,800 square metres of exhibition space, the Gallery is the permanent home of Sheffield’s unique Metalwork Collection and Ruskin Collection of art and artefacts and plays host to major temporary exhibitions of art, craft, fashion and design. Since opening, the Millennium Gallery has welcomed many of the UK’s finest touring exhibitions, including shows from the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tate, and the National Portrait Gallery. Highlights have included Constable, Vivienne Westwood: The Exhibition, The European Design Show and Restless Times: Art in Britain 1914–1945. The Gallery currently welcomes over 800,000 visitors each year.

Kelham Island Museum was opened in 1982 to house the objects, pictures and archive material representing Sheffield's industrial story. Come and explore the sights and sounds of industrial Sheffield. Wander through interactive galleries telling the city's story, from light trades and skilled workmanship to mass production.Learn what it was like to live and work in Sheffield during the Industrial Revolution and follow the growth of the city through the Victorian Era and two world wars, to see how steelmaking forged both the city of today and the world! Located in one of the Sheffield's oldest industrial districts, the museum stands on a man-made island over 900 years old. It's also home to the mighty 12,000hp River Don Engine, the most powerful working steam engine in Europe, while outside you'll be greeted by one of the few remaining Bessemer Converters in the world! Weston Park Museum is a museum in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is one mile west of Sheffield city centre within Weston Park. It is Sheffield's largest museum and is housed in a Grade II* listed building and managed by Museums Sheffield. Until 2006 it was called Sheffield City Museum and Mappin Art Gallery

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is an industrial museum in the south of the City of Sheffield, England. The museum forms part of a former steel-working site on the River Sheaf, with a history going back to at least the 13th century. It is a unique eighteenth century industrial works and a Scheduled Ancient Monument, made up of Grade I and Grade II listed buildings. Originally called Abbeydale Works, the site was once a producer of agricultural tools and the largest water-powered industrial site on the River Sheaf. The main products of the works were agricultural scythes, but other edge tools were made too, such as grass hooks and hay knives.Here you can see the Manager's House and Worker's Cottage, waterwheels, workshops, tilt hammers, a grinding hull, steam engine and the last complete surviving crucible steel furnace in the UK.


Graves Art Gallery

Graves Gallery is the home of Sheffield’s visual art collection and was officially opened in July 1934, dedicated to ‘the service of knowledge and art’. Situated above the Central Library, away from the noise and traffic of the city centre, the Gallery is a peaceful haven for visitors to enjoy the city’s art and a series of temporary exhibitions. Famous names on show at the Graves Gallery include Turner and Sisley, while more recent artists include Bridget Riley, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Marc Quinn. Local heroes include George Fullard, Derrick Greaves and Stanley Royle.

 See Sheffield’s knife grinding history brought to life at Shepherd Wheel Workshop, a unique Grade II listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument is situated in the heart of the picturesque Porter Valley, just a 10 minute walk from Endcliffe Park. Dating back to the 1500s, it was one of many small water-powered grinding workshops along Sheffield's rivers. The workshop played an instrumental role in the city’s cutlery industry right up until the 1930s and is the earliest complete example of its kind. Experience the working waterwheel and machinery in action, see the tools of the trade and hear stories about the grinders who worked here over the centuries. Shepherd Wheel Workshop is operated with the generous support of the Friends of the Porter Valley.

The Magna Science Adventure Centre is an educational visitor attraction, appealing primarily to children, located in the former Templeborough steelworks in Rotherham. A fantastic day out is a hands-on experience packed with interactive exhibits.


Boston Castle and Park

Come and visit Boston Castle to find out about the Earl of Effingham and the building of Boston Castle. The Castle is a square, two storey building, standing on one of the highest points in Rotherham. Boston Castle was as a hunting lodge by the Earl of Effingham in 1775. It acquired the name Boston Castle to commemorate the Boston Tea Party. Boston Castle is now a small visitor attraction with historical information and displays on the history of the Castle, an interactive touch screen, and children’s costumes and games. There is also access on request to a Roof Top viewing platform for visitors to enjoy expansive views of Rotherham and Sheffield. Boston Park covers just over eight hectares and is situated at the end of Boston Castle Grove. At the side of the park is Canklow Woods, an ancient woodland area. The park was originally laid out with extensive gardens, a cricket ground, a bowling and croquet lawn and an open area for gymnastics. Today the park still boasts an attractive garden area and a large open area for informal recreation. It is also well used by visitors for walking.

The South Yorkshire Transport Museum (SYTM) is a volunteer-owned museum of transport located in Rotherham, England and focussing on the transport history of South Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. It was established in 1995.  Vehicles exhibited in the museum include: a class 76 electric locomotive which hauled passenger and heavy freight trains on the Woodhead line. a Leyland Tiger bus, built in 1935 and restored for the museum by Stagecoach in 2019. Other artefacts include bicycles, motorbikes, lorries and milk floats.

Wentworth Woodhouse is a Grade I listed country house which is currently owned by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust. The building has more than 300 rooms, with 250,000 square feet (23,000 m2) of floorspace, including 124,600 square feet (11,580 m2) of living area, and was – until it ceased to be privately owned – often listed as the largest private residence in the United Kingdom. It covers an area of more than 2.5 acres (1.0 ha), and is surrounded by a 180-acre (73 ha) park, and an estate of 15,000 acres (6,100 ha).

The Rotherham & District Model Engineers   Society runs its miniature trains every Sunday from April to October and every Wednesday during school holidays. Trains operate between 12:30 and 16:30 with a fare of £1.0 for a ride of approximately half a mile.

Elsecar Heritage Centre

Operated by Barnsley Museums, Elsecar Heritage Centre has independent shops, studios, galleries and cafes in former Victorian engineering workshops. It also has a large antiques centre.[1] A visitor centre and regular tours share the unique history of the village, an industrial estate village of ironworks and collieries, built for the Earls Fitzwilliam of Wentworth Woodhouse. Elsecar is now recognised to be of international significance, one of the UK's first model villages and a precursor to places like Saltaire. Close to the heritage centre, at the Elsecar New Colliery, is a Newcomen steam engine, the only such engine still in its original location and now understood to be the world's oldest steam engine still in situ.
