The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service, based at Rotherham General Hospital, has become the first in South Yorkshire to achieve MQuISS; the Macmillan Quality Standard for Cancer Information and Support Services.
The MQuISS accreditation provides guidance on developing, delivering and improving information and support services to meet the needs of people affected by cancer.
The standard looks at 12 interlinked ‘quality areas’, focusing on themes including planning, managing people, monitoring and evaluation and offering a user-centred service.
The service in Rotherham is run by Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service Managers Paula Lowson and Angela Eyre.
The pair provide information and support to people living with cancer, their families and carers and can also signpost users to other help and support they may need.
Angela and Paula said: “We’re very proud to be the first team in South Yorkshire to achieve this recognition.
“Achieving the MQuISS standard demonstrates our commitment to providing all of our service users with high quality support which is personal to each individual’s needs.”
To achieve the MQuISS standard, Paula and Angela completed a detailed application process to show they met the criteria and high standard expected.
Macmillan Partnership Quality Lead Dinah Coggon added: “This is a huge achievement and great recognition given to the team in reaching the Macmillan Quality in Information and Support Services Standard.
“Reaching the required level demonstrates the high quality of the information and support service the team are providing to people affected by cancer within their local community.
“The team should be proud of their achievements and the commitment that they have shown in delivering continuous quality improvement in the provision of information and support and in making a difference in the lives of people affected by cancer.”
The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service is based at Rotherham General Hospital and is open Monday to Thursday from 10am to 4pm and Friday 10am to 12pm.
